The iconic, golden crescent-shaped beach on Maui’s southwestern coast is one of five beaches in this posh resort area. And it’s easily the most popular. Wailea is big, wide, and protected, with views of Kahoolawe and Lanai offshore. From late December to early May, you might even catch a glimpse of the Pacific humpback whales that migrate to Maui’s warmer waters. The waters here are calm enough to swim and snorkel, and the golden beach is a great place for lounging and walking. The sunsets here are breathtaking — even better from one of the oceanfront restaurants.
