Among Windward Mall’s 110-plus diversions are national retailers and locally owned specialty stores such as Gallery Haiku (spotlighting creations by Hawaii artists) and Seeds ’N Things (filled with “crack seed” and other local snacks).
Hokulea Voyage of Discovery, the first children’s “soft play area” in Hawaii, is furnished with a double-hulled canoe, reef sharks, a sea turtle, and an island with a waterfall slide—all made of durable materials that absorb impact. Cruise around the mall in the four-car, 18-passenger Cubby Caboose Mini Express Train; besides being fun (yes, for adults too!), it’s a great way to get the “lay of the land” and locate your favorite stores.
Other attractions: a 10-plex theater; a twice-weekly farmers’ market; Center Stage, where fairs, concerts, dance performances, and other entertainment are staged; a food court with exhibits on the history of windward Oahu; and special events such as a Pumpkin Carving Festival for Halloween and Kids Inc., a competition that gives entrepreneurs aged 6 through 15 the chance to operate a business for a day at the mall.
