Emotional/Comfort/Psychiatric Support Animals are animals that provide comfort, affection and companionship to aid in emotional and/or psychiatric therapy. Emotional Support Animals are not trained to perform a task and/or function to assist a person with a psychological disability.

Hawaiian Airlines accepts emotional/comfort/psychiatric support animals for transportation in if all requirements are met. In the event the animal does not behave or the owner is unable to control the animal, Hawaiian Airlines reserves the right to deny travel for the animal and/or boarding.

 

Reservation Requirements

Guests traveling with their emotional support animal must provide Hawaiian Airlines with the following:
  1. 48-hour advance notice prior to scheduled departure
  2. Guests must check-in one hour prior to the general public
  3. A valid health certificate dated:


    4. Travel Between Health Certificate must be dated
    Hawaii to North America Within 10 days of travel
    North America to Hawaii Within 14 days of travel

  4. For flights that are more than 8 hours long, guests will need to provide documentation that shows:
    • That the service animal will not relieve itself on the flight - OR -
    • That the animal can relive itself in a way that does not create a health or sanitation issue on the flight
  5. Documentation, dated less than a year ago, provided on the letterhead of the guest’s licensed mental health professional stating the following:
    • The passenger has a mental or emotional disability recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders—Fourth Edition (DSM IV)
    • The passenger needs the emotional support or psychiatric support animal as an accommodation for air travel and/or for activity at the guest’s destination
    • The individual providing the assessment is a licensed mental health professional, and the passenger is under his or her professional care; and
    • The date and type of the mental health professional's license including the state or other jurisdiction in which it was issued

Note: Hawaiian Airlines reserves the right to authenticate any documentation presented.

 

Travel Restrictions

Not all countries and/or governments recognize or allow the entry of emotional/comfort/psychiatric support animals. Guests are responsible for contacting the country and/or governmental agency to obtain additional information regarding the entry of emotional/comfort/psychiatric support animals.
