The Hualalai Golf Course was designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus and sculpted from lava to portray the Big Island’s notoriety for volcanic activity which continues presently.
A visually dramatic par-72 masterpiece, Hualalai features picturesque green fairways contrasted by white sand bunkers set against black lava and backstopped by the blue ocean. Golfers will appreciate how Nicklaus was careful not to allow the lava to infringe upon the resort course, which provides generous landing areas.
The signature 17th hole combines natural beauty and challenging elements—even though it is a short 164 yards, the shoreline environment and pin placement make for a great test of skill. During the winter months, this hole is the perfect spot to view humpback whales frolicking in the distance.
