Lava Lava Beach Club in Waikoloa seems to have nailed the formula for that day-to-night transition, as their open-air bar sits right on, and extends onto, the beach.
Live music happens every night from 5 to 9:30 p.m., with the added bonus of Hawaii legend Henry Kapono every 3rd Friday from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Other musician highlights include award-winner John Cruz and the Big Island’s own LT Smooth.
Every beach community has beach bars, but Lava Lava adds a touch of class with nightly hula, and with cocktails that try harder.
Try the Sandy Toes, built with sage leaves, blueberries and St. Germaine liquor.
Or dial up the heat with a Green-tini: gin, jalapeno syrup, pineapple and cilantro. If you work up a case of the late night munchies, there is a lengthy bar menu to choose from with options as light as gazpacho and as creative as the standing ahi nachos.
