Short N Sweet has been in Hilo for seven years, tempting all who pass by on Kinoole Street.
Maria Short, founder of Short N Sweet Bakery in Hilo, brings classical French technique to Big Island flavors like passion fruit (lilikoi), banana, and coffee to turn out exceptional versions of favorites like banana cream pie, lilikoi bars, and, even (yes, in Hilo) crème brulee.
Although the critics apparently proclaimed, “You are never going to make it here, you don’t have doughnuts," Short N Sweet just won “Best Desserts in East Hawaii 2016."
That may be because everything in the bakery case is “made from scratch from real food."
All of the breads are GMO-free, the butter is organic, and the focaccia is vegan.
Sunday Brunch is BYOB, so bring something to pair with eggs benedict, quiche, coconut custard French toast, and real New-York-style bagels with smoked salmon and lox, or the variety of schmears made in-house.
Hours: Mon.-Fri. 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./weekends 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
