It’s top-notch photography, as you can easily see when you approach the gallery, which is on the corner of Kamehameha Avenue and Haili Street in downtown Hilo. There are striking, crowd-stopping, oversized prints in the large plate windows of the corner shop. Video of the current Kilauea eruption plays on a continuous loop, also in the window. It’s hard not to go in.
Omori and Kualii say their goal is always to capture the spirit of the island in their images of the explosive volcano, as well as in their soothing seascapes and other landscape and nature images. In addition to large, professionally mounted images they also sell smaller print versions.
The gallery is a destination in itself – because they have, indeed, captured the essence of the Big Island in their photography and the gallery presents it well. Omori and Kualii also offer photography tours by special arrangement.
Open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
