If your holiday plans include bicycling (one of our favorite forms of ground travel!) you can check in your two-wheeled gear at the same time you check in for your flight. This goes for any non-motorized touring or racing bicycles with single seats and bicycles with tandem seats.
Keep in mind that since bicycles don’t count as part of your free baggage allowance, you’ll pay an extra fee. This applies whether you pack your bicycle as a single piece or separate pieces.
As for unicycles, break-apart bicycles or other cycles that can be packed in a standard suitcase? They’re another matter: If you can pack them in a standard suitcase, you can include them in your free baggage allowance. However, when in excess, each suitcase will be subject to the excess baggage fee.
And if your journey starts with Hawaiian Airlines and continues on other airlines with whom we have baggage agreements, we’ll gladly check your bicycle through to your destination. Hawaiian Airlines will collect all charges including the other airlines’ handling charges.
What you need to know
Conditions of Acceptance:
- You’ll need to fix the handlebars sideways and remove the pedals, or enclose the pedals and handlebars in plastic foam or similar material
- Bicycles and any attachable parts must be adequately packed in a box or hard case
- You’ll need to sign a waiver of liability when you check in*
- Transportation is subject to availability of space**
*Hawaiian Airlines will not be responsible for damage to or loss of inadequately or unsuitably packed, uncrated or unprotected bicycles
**Hawaiian Airlines cannot be responsible for ground delivery of a bicycle not accommodated on the flight it was originally accepted for as checked baggage.
Sports Equipment Fees and Restrictions
How much will it cost and what are the length and weight restrictions to transport your bicycling equipment? It all depends on your destination. Keep in mind that long stopovers along the way could mean you’ll be charged baggage fees to and from your layover point.
